From September 18th to 20th, players from Asker Badminton Club participated in Ranking Tournaments for U13 in Trondheim and U17 in Sandefjord.
All our players showed great spirit and gave their best throughout the tournaments. We are proud to see several of our players finish in the top 5.
These results would not have been possible without the support and encouragement from our coach Sturla, parents, and the dedication of our players.
Well done to everyone! Let’s keep the momentum going, continue to support each other, and keep climbing the rankings together as one team.

While some Asker players played their very first local tournament during our own Asker Open 2 weeks back, we have two very experienced U17 players who were selected to play in Latvia. In total, there were eight players, four boys and four girls, who were selected to represent Norway in the RSL Sigulda U17 Open 2026.

Here we have the Norwegian squad, with coach Javier Bish on the far left in the picture. In addition, we have Asker players Daniel Nguyen (no.2 from right back) and Sarah Zeyu Du (no.2 from right front).

There were many exciting matches played during the tournament, and it is very clear if you look at Sarah’s matches. She ended up playing three long three-setters, one in each category. Of the nine sets she played, five of them also went out in extra time, where perhaps the most impressive was against the 4th seed from Spain, where she eventually lost the match with the numbers 27-25 20-22 13-21.

In doubles, Sarah played with Audrina Ammara Darmawan from Stavanger, and in mixed doubles she played with Anton Hofmann, who represents Bergen. Despite the loss, there have been several strong presentations on the court in Latvia.

Daniel has a little more momentum going into this tournament, where he and mixed doubles partner Varshini Manikandan from Skrim, beat a Latvian pair in the round of 16, get a walkover in the round of 16 against an Estonian pair, and then make it all the way to the quarterfinals where they lose to the third seed from Lithuania.

Also in singles, Daniel makes it all the way to the quarterfinals! Here he actually gets a walkover in the round of 16, before winning the round of eight, before it gets a few notches too tough in the quarterfinals before the first seed from Estonia.
In the doubles with partner Aksel Stavnes Fossåskaret, it was a little tougher, and they narrowly lost the first round.

Well done to both of them, and we wish them a lot of good training and good luck towards future competitions and championships, both nationally and internationally.

A Weekend Full of Badminton, Community and Fun

The Asker Badminton Tournament 2026 took place on 12–13 September at Nesbruhallen. It was a weekend filled with badminton, excitement, family time, friendship and a strong sense of community.

This year, we were pleased to welcome 112 participants in Singles and 84 participants in Doubles, with players ranging from U11 to Senior A. Across the two days, a total of 235 matches were played, creating an exciting atmosphere both on and off the courts.

A Weekend of Badminton

The tournament brought together players of different ages and levels, giving everyone an opportunity to compete, learn and enjoy the sport.

The spectators were treated to many intense and exciting matches, while the players experienced the challenge and joy of competing against new and familiar opponents.

But the tournament was not only about what happened on the courts. Between matches, families and friends had the opportunity to spend time together, meet other members of the badminton community and enjoy the atmosphere around the hall.

More Than Just a Badminton Tournament

For Asker Badminton, this weekend was about more than simply organising a badminton tournament.

It was a privilege for our club to have the opportunity to bring players, families, coaches and supporters together and serve our local community through sport.

We believe that badminton should be about more than winning and losing. It is also about creating friendships, giving children and young people a place to belong, encouraging participation and sharing good experiences together.

This spirit was also reflected in a recent article from Oslofjorden Badmintonkrets, “Idrettsglede og fellesskap i sentrum”. The article describes the activity and engagement around Asker Open and highlights how tournaments can bring players, families, volunteers and the wider badminton community together.

We are happy to see that the joy of sport and the importance of community are being recognised beyond the tournament itself.

The smiles around the hall, the support from parents and the encouragement between players made the weekend special.

Food, Fun and Time Together

Food was also an important part of the weekend. Participants, parents and volunteers had the opportunity to enjoy food throughout the tournament, including sushi generously sponsored by Lerøy.

The food and social atmosphere gave everyone a chance to take a break from the courts, relax with family and friends and enjoy the weekend together.

A Big Thank You to Everyone

A tournament like this cannot happen without the contribution of many people behind the scenes.

We would like to thank all the players and families who participated and supported the tournament.

A special thank you goes to all our volunteers, who helped throughout the weekend with the different tasks needed to make the tournament run smoothly. We are especially grateful to those who stayed until the very end to help clean the hall and leave everything in order.

We would also like to thank Lerøy for supporting the event with sushi.

Your time, effort and support made a real difference and helped make the tournament a success.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Asker Badminton Tournament 2026.

Whether you played your first tournament, gained valuable experience, reached the finals or simply enjoyed being part of the weekend, every participant contributed to making the event special.

Most importantly, we hope everyone went home with good memories, new experiences and an even greater joy for badminton.

Looking Ahead

The success of this tournament was made possible by the combined effort of players, parents, volunteers, coaches, sponsors and everyone who supported the event.

For Asker Badminton, it was a privilege to host this tournament and create an opportunity for our badminton community to come together.

A tournament may be played on the courts, but it is the people around those courts who make the experience special.

We look forward to welcoming everyone again at future Asker Badminton events.

Due to current the Covid situation we are going forward with mandatory registration for all our trainings in Spond.

This means that you can only participate in the traning sessions you have sign up for in Spond. 

The “lag-serie” play has now been started after the covid break. Asker has joined forces with IL skrim this season to compete in the U15 “lag-serie” with a very strong team. 

During the weekend of 23rd and 24th of October this mixed team played in Haugerudhallen with the following result:

• Win 8-0 against Vestre Aker (Saturday)
• Win 5-3 against Haugerud (Sunday)  
• Win 7-1 against Strømmen (Sunday)

A wonderful result! Our team is also a mix of experienced and new players in the lag-serie format. Everyone gave full support to they team and all experienced a very nice weekend socially and sportsvise

Another nice weekend with many Asker badminton players playing has come to and end. We are impressed by the result of Shreyas and Shravan which played against each other in U13A men singles and together (and vinning) the U13A men double. Also Yatin made a very good result with his 3. place in U15A men single. A lot of other players from Asker also played and we happy to se so many Asker players having fun and learning a lot by playing in various tournaments. We encourage all Asker badminton player to participate in local tournaments as this is fun and a good way to improve badminton skills.

In Mosstreffen in the beginning of October there were two Asker-players that played their first tournament ever. Kaushik and Manju did a great job and even though they were a little bit nervous at first, they had a nice experience in the badminton hall. Please read a little intervju with them below.

How was it to play your first tournament?

K: It was very good because I made it to the finals in my first tournament.

M: It was so good and at the same time I was feeling a bit nervous. The tournament was a new experience for me.

What did you learn?

K: I learned to move the player around on court.

M: I learned losing is also a part of the game. I can learn more when I lose, so losing also benefit me.

What is your best memory from the tournament?

K: When I received my trophy.

M: Of course winning was a good memory, but at the same time losing was also a good memory.

What will you continue working on?

K: My confidence on court.

M: Moving the opponent around on court, increasing the power of my smash and accepting failure.

Great effort and good results from this weekend's tournament in Moss (see all results here). In total we got four gold, seven silver and two bronze. Very good results in all age groups.
Many of our young players played their first tournament this weekend and we all think this was fun.

The Covid restrictions for the use of Askerhallen is now lifted. We can now use Askerhallen as we did before the Covid outbreak. But we are still very many player in a restricted area so we need to organise the players in groups.
